RMG aims to create a more resilient Middle Georgia! This work is only possible if parents and caregivers are involved! You are such an important part of the change needed to reduce adversity and trauma and increase positive childhood experiences in our community.
Why should Parents/Caregivers become involved with RMG?
1.
To help their children who have experienced trauma:
Parents and caregivers are the first people to help children who have experienced adversity and trauma. Children turn to their parents and caregivers in times of need and are looking for support and relief. Parents want to help their children but often do not know what to do when children are suffering or in pain. By joining RMG, you can learn more about how to support your children when trauma occurs and over the long term!
2. To understand the impact of their own traumatic experiences:
Parents can find that as they are helping their children, adverse and traumatic experiences from their own past can be brought into their own life. The research shows that the majority of adults in the United States have experienced 3 or more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). By learning about adversity and trauma, parents and caregivers can address their own past experiences and work to reduce the impact of childhood experiences on parenting practices. Ultimately, this will make you a better parent/caregiver!
3. To buffer against any difficult household and community experiences:
Parents can find themselves in difficult life and/or living situations, such as trouble finding a job, unable to pay the bills, stressful housing, conflict in the home, or living in violent communities. When these situations are not easily changed, parents/caregivers can be an important buffer against this adversity. By learning more about Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) parents/caregivers can decrease the impact of these life and/or living experiences on their children. RMG aims to work with parents/caregivers to better understand the challenges faced by families in middle Georgia and how to best support them!
